Holt Boys Basketball Tryout Information

Dear Players and Parents:

 

The boy’s basketball season officially starts on Monday, November 5.  We have outlined below the tryout practice times, items needed from each player and the different areas we evaluate as part of the player selection process. We will have multiple coaches at each practice that will be actively engaged in the evaluation process. Our goal is to use the evaluations from the entire coaching staff to make the best decisions in selecting the teams.

 

Tryout Practice Times:

  • Three days of tryouts at the Holt High School Main Campus Gym
  • Monday, November 5 – Wednesday, November 7
    • Freshman                     5:30 – 7:30 pm
    • Junior Varsity              3:30 – 5:30 pm
    • Varsity                         7:30 – 9:30 pm
  • Final player cuts will be made after practice on Wednesday, November 7.

 

What needs to be done prior to Monday, November 5:

    1. Complete registration process at FamilyID.com
    2. Physical on file – athletes will not be allowed to practice without a physical
    3. Completed registration card from the athletic office. Must bring to first day of tryouts to participate.

      2. Accountability          
        • Doing the right things academically, athletically and socially
      3. Basketball Ability
        • Fundamental skills
        • Understanding team concepts
        • Instincts for the game
      4. Athleticism
        • Physical attributes including size, speed, strength and jumping ability
      5. Coachability
        • Attitude and effort
        • Handle physical and mental challenges
        • Demonstrate willingness to listen and learn
      6. Position
        • Determine the positions each player can play
        • Balance of positions - guards/forwards/centers
      7. Future Development
        • Evaluating potential versus current skill set
